Ricardo Joseph alias Cardo, 31, today appeared before the Arima 1st Magistrate Court charged with the murder of special reserve police officer, 9719 PC Jason Cyrol John.
John, 29, of Williams Trace, Five Rivers, Arouca, was shot and killed while making his way home on May 24th, 2016.
In addition to the charge of murder, Joseph is charged with possession of firearm and ammunition and faces the unrelated charges of rape, buggery, grievous sexual assault and common assault arising from other crimes committed.

Such was the case this week in Halifax, Virginia where Police Chief Kevin Lands and Officer Brian Warner pulled over drivers for violating vehicle code 220.127.116.11 — otherwise known as driving on a hot day without ice cream.
Police are investigating the murder of a 30-year-old man in St Ann's on Monday.
Police reports indicate that residents heard loud explosions and upon checking found Motape Hutchinson's body lying on the road.
Hutchinson, of Ariapita Road, St Ann's, was shot multiple times.
Police are continuing investigations.

Trinidad Guardian: Several people have been questioned in connection with the spate of murders this past weekend, according to the Police Service hierarchy.
But officers on the field insisted up until late yesterday, no one has been arrested in connection with any of five murders which occurred in separate incidents in St Joseph, Tunapuna, Morvant and Caura this past weekend.
In the wake of the latest homicides, acting police commissioner, Stephen Williams, yesterday announced a heightened police presence nation-wide.
Police have arrested 33 people in various exercises, including one for murder.
The Police Service has issued this update on their latest operations.
"Northern Division – firearm, ammunition seized
Between the hours of 5:00pm and 12midnight on Tuesday 26th July 2016, Ag. Inspector Nowbutt, Sgt Pitt along with a party of officers attached to the Nothern Division Task Force Area Central, Police K9 Unit, St. Joseph and Tunapuna Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Arouca, St. Joseph and Tunapuna districts.
Police have seized five guns, 19 rounds of ammunition and have arrested five people in various operations between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon.
The Police Service has issued the following statement on their operations:
"Western Division – firearm, ammunition seized
Between the hours of 6:00pm and 11:30pm on Sunday 24th July 2016, Inspector Gonzales along with a party of officers attached to the Western
Division Task Force conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Western Division.
Trinidad Guardian: A Special Reserve Police (SRP) constable was expected to undergo surgery yesterday, after being shot in the foot when a female police officer opened fire on a suspect last Thursday.
PC Mendoza, attached to the San Fernando Police Station, was discharged over the weekend but returned to hospital yesterday, police sources said.
Meanwhile, the suspect he and other fellow officers were attempting to arrest remained warded under police guard at the San Fernando General Hospital in a stable condition.
