Body of Couva woman found on Gran Couva precipice

Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a Couva woman on a precipice in Gran Couva.

The decomposing body of 34-year-old Lisa Matagoolam was discovered 4 pm on Thursday.

Matagoolam is from Dow Village, California.

She was a sales clerk at a clothing store in Chagaunas and a mother of a 13-year-old girl.

Matagoolam was last seen by her mother on Sunday afternoon in the company of her ex-fiance.

She was reported missing to the Couva Police Station.

Police have questioned her ex-fiance who said he had dropped her off in Chaguanas.

Facebook video shows young men brandishing semi-automatic gun; police seek help identifying them

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying three young men brandishing what seems to be a semi-automatic gun in a video now circulating online.

Two of the men's faces are clear in the video which speaks of one of the men's lust to kill.


One of the men declares that they are gangsters and speaks openly about killing those who oppose them.

Police say they are investigating the latest video and are asking the public to come forward with any information on men.

Police search for rapist

The search is on for a man wanted for the rape of a 21-year-old woman.

The female casino worker was attacked as she made her way home around 3 o’clock on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at Damarie Hill in Guaico.

The victim told police she noticed the suspect following her as she exited a taxi and walked towards her home.

The man attacked her, robbed her and then sexually assaulted her.


Gunfire as two men attempt to break into Immigration Detention Centre

Police are investigating a shooting incident at the Immigration Detention Centre in Aripo, as two men attempted to cut a fence to enter the facility Wednesday night.

They suspect the men were planning a jailbreak.

Police say the men possessed a hacksaw and a wire cutter.

The incident occurred around  9.20 pm while an officer was patrolling a poorly-lit area of the centre where he heard a noise.

The guard reported that the two men were trying to cut the fence wire and on seeing the guard, they fired several shots.

Police officer accidentally shoots himself

A police officer is currently in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital after accidentally shooting himself. 

According to reports, two police officers from the Debe Highway Patrol were on mobile patrol duty when the driver of the police vehicle lost control of the car after a dog ran across the street. 

A loud explosion was heard and one of the officers indicated that he had been shot. 

The wounded man was taken to the Couva District Health Facility where he was treated before being transferred to the hospital.

Police investigate two murders

Police are investigating two murders that occurred on Sunday.

A 30-year-old man is dead following a shooting in Arouca Sunday morning.

According to police reports, Kamau Charles was liming with a group of friends at La Luna Bar, along the Eastern Main Road in Arouca, when he got into a confrontation with another individual. 

The two then parted ways, although things seemed heated.

While Charles was leaving the bar, he was confronted by a man who walked up to him around 2.30 a.m.
