Police officer shot in Sealots

A police officer is at this time fighting for his life at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being shot last night.

According to police reports, around 8pm on Thursday, Acting Seargent Morris, who was at the time off duty, was in Sealots when he was ambushed and shot multiple times.

He was hit in one of his hands, hip and left leg.

He was rushed to hospital where he is warded in a critical condition.

The officer is attached to the Port-of-Spain Community Police Unit.

Police believe his attacker escaped via the sea.

Two law enforcement officers murdered; one killed in fall at his home

Three law enforcement officers are dead, two of whom were murdered early this morning.

The third officer was killed by a fall down some stairs at his home.

In the first incident, a police officer was murdered early this morning on his way home.

Police reports state that around 12:30 am today, Special Reserved Police Constable Jason Cyril John who is assigned to the Court and Process Branch, Port-of-Spain was on his way home at William Trace, Five Rivers, Arouca. 

He was speaking to his wife when she heard several loud explosions through the phone.

Five charged with double murder

Five men have appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar charged with the double murder of construction workers Andre La Touche and Abiola Noel.

The accused, Seon Barnswell, 21, Michael Findley, 23, Kyle Belgrave, 20, Olatunji Denbow, 25 and Kellon Maxine, 21, appeared before the Port-of-Spain 8th Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Wednesday 18th May, 2016, where the matter was postponed to Tuesday 14th June, 2016.

Soldier arrested for robbing, stabbing Chaguanas man

A member of the T&T Defense Force was arrested on Saturday morning for robbing and stabbing a Chaguanas man.

Police say the victim, a 24-year-old man of Mamoral Number 2 was in the vicinity of Champs Bar at Railway Road, Chaguanas when around 2.50 am a soldier attached to Camp Ogden, St James attacked the victim with a broken beer bottle stabbing him several times about his face and his right hand.

The soldier then proceeded to rob the victim of a cell phone and $460 in cash.

Police interrogate Watson Duke on rape allegations

PSA President  Watson Duke surrendered himself for interrogation by police around 2pm this afternoon.

Duke went to the Central Police Station, Port of Spain, with criminal defence attorney John Heath.

He will be interview by police officers investigating an allegation that he sexually assaulted a 33-year-old Chaguanas woman at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain on Tuesday.

Duke has already denied the allegation.

Prominent trade union leader accused of rape

Police are this morning investigating a rape allegation against a well-known trade union leader.

The allegations have been raised by a 33-year-old woman.

According to police, the trade union leader is said to have taken the woman to a well known hotel in Port-of-Spain around 2pm on Tuesday under the guise of a meeting.

She alleges that the trade union leader took her to a room where the act is said to have taken place.

The woman went to the Port-of-Spain CID where she filed a report and subsequently medically examined.

Thousands view online video of female 'journalist' in police custody

Thousands of people have viewed a video that went online today, of a young woman who bears the name of a newspaper journalist being filmed by police while in custody.

The woman in the video claims she was being detained by the police under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.


At one point, she calls the name of a newspaper journalist in reference to herself.

Seven charged with exceeding speed limit of 80kph

Police have charged seven people already with exceeding the speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour.

The following is a statement from the Police Service:

"Seven motorists have been charged with exceeding the speed limit contrary to section 62:1 of the Motor Vehicle Road Traffic Act Chap 48:50.

The persons were charged during an exercise conducted by the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch along the east bound lane of the Audrey Jeffers Highway, between 5:00pm and 6:00pm today – Thursday 5th May, 2016.
