NWRHA advises of changes made at Port-of-Spain General Hospital

The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) is advising that the Haematology Clinic formerly housed on ward 44 of the Central Block has been relocated to the second (2nd) floor of the administration building at Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NWRHA said patients continue to receive treatment as required and full clinic services will resume on Wednesday 29th August, 2018.

NWRHA: Patients were not at risk during power outage at POS General Hospital

The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) says that at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning, an electrical outage occurred at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

The NWRHA says that due to the collaborative efforts of the hospital’s in-house electrical team and the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) electricity was restored at the institution around 8:30 a.m.

It added that during the power outage, emergency measures were successfully employed and at no time was patient care compromised.

Health Ministry: All protocols were followed by Port-of-Spain Hospital staff

The Ministry of Health says that all protocols were followed by the staff of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in the investigations surrounding the death of Christopher Phillip on the grounds of the hospital. 

The Ministry is now calling for family members to come forward and identify the body to ensure that the autopsy can take place.

NWRHA: Elderly man was treated and discharged; left on his own accord

The  North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) has launched an investigation into the death of an elderly man on the ground outside the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

However, the NWRHA says initial reports indicate that the man was treated and discharged and left on his own accord.

Video captures elderly man alive lying on hospital grounds Tuesday before he was found dead Wednesday morning

The body of an elderly man has been found lying on the grass on the premises of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and a video now circulating online, suggests that he had been there since Tuesday afternoon.

A passersby discovered the man lying face down this morning.

Port-of-Spain General Hospital seeks help in identifying man

The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an unknown patient who is currently warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Port of Spain General Hospital.

A statement from the NWRHA says the unidentified man was found unconscious in the vicinity of the Beetham Gardens on Monday 13th December, 2016.

It describes the man as'

* Of African Descent

* Approximately 80kg

* 6 feet

* 40 to 50 years old

Police probe death of 17-month-old baby

An investigation is now underway to determine how a 17-month-old baby died. 

Police say a 17-month-old baby girl from Laventille was brought to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital on Thursday by relatives who said she was unwell. 

Police say, however, that while doctors were treating the baby, she died and it was then doctors noticed dry blood at the back of the baby's head. 

An autopsy has been ordered at the Forensics Sciences Centre.
