Ramadhar: Irresponsible to waste police resources to investigate Friday's Couva protest

COP MP Prakash Ramadhar believes such an investigation is a waste of police time and serves to intimidate citizens for speaking out against the government.

Ramadhar who was present at the demonstration has written to the National Security Minister to express his disappointment over the investigation

Ministry: WASA provided water to Penal community Sunday and Monday, they protest today

The Ministry of Public Utilities has come to the defence of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), saying the utility has been doing its best to provide water to areas that have been suffering.

The Ministry says in a statement that WASA only recently provided water to a community in Penal that protested for water this morning.

Penal residents protest over poor water supply

Residents of Solomon Knox Road, Penal blocked the access road from as early as 5 am this morning to protest the lack of water supply.

The residents lit tyres as they demonstrated.

They say over 300 homes have been without water for over a month.

Some residents say they are forced to go to family home far from where they live to wash clothes and even to use the washroom.

The road was cleared around mid-morning.
