Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says the Police Service and the Transport Commissioner are conducting two separate investigations into Tuesday’s horrific accident, which saw two people being killed and 48 others injured.
A foreign object lying on the Uriah Butler Highway may have caused the accident on Tuesday that resulted in the death of two women and not a defective tyre as initially believed.
This was yesterday disclosed to the Guardian Media by a senior licensing officer who received information directly from the investigating police officer and the inspector assigned to the Licensing Authority (Transport Division) of the Ministry of Works and Transport. Both officers were on the scene of the fatal accident in Charlieville on Tuesday.
There will be a review of the use of heaving vehicles, such as trucks, driving along the right lane of the highway following Tuesday's horrific accident which killed two people and left 48 injured.
This was confirmed by Minister of Works & Transport Rohan Sinanan after he visited some of the accident victims at the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex on Wednesday.
"It is something that we are looking at, I can't say why they were on that lane. But it is something that we are looking at," said Sinanan.
