Traffic disruption northbound on highway by Couva Hospital tonight

The Ministry of Works and Transport is advising the public that from 9 pm tonight to 2 am on Tuesday, there will be a temporary traffic disruption along the northbound lanes of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway in the vicinity of the Couva Children’s Hospital.

The ministry says this is to facilitate the removal of the temporary surface and repaving of the asphalt surface.

The public is advised to:

• Please proceed with caution and observe all informative and directional signs and barriers 

Weight of school bags way above internationally-accepted standards; Ministry takes action

Education Minister Anthony Garcia says a committee has been set-up to find ways of reducing the weight of school bags carried by primary and secondary school students.

The Minister made the announcement during a news conference in Port-of-Spain today, saying that Trinidad and Tobago is already way above internationally-accepted standards and that serious health issues have already arisen.

CMO: No outbreak of Hand, Foot & Mouth disease in T&T

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram is assuring there is no outbreak of the Hand, Foot and Mouth disease in the country.

The confirmation follows the Health Ministry's recent circulation of a memo warning of the spread of the disease.

However, Dr Parasram says the correspondence was sent to all physicians to be on alert for cases of the disease and not meant to put the population on panic mode.

According to him, the reported cases in a Central Trinidad school have been traced, persons treated and the disease contained.

Water disruption from Golden Grove Road to Sangre Grande on Wednesday

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers in parts of North-East Trinidad served by the North Oropouche Water Treatment Plant, that there will be an interruption in their water supply on Wednesday, between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm.

WASA says This has become necessary in order to carry out electrical maintenance works at the plant.

Fatal accident in Santa Rosa

An accident along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway this morning has claimed the life of one person.

Reports indicate that the incident took place shortly after 6:30 am in the vicinity of the Santa Rosa traffic lights.

The caused a massive traffic pile up and motorists are being advised to approach with caution.

Police want public help after arrest of ‘sicko’ in sting operation

Chaguanas police investigating the rape of a 19-year-old woman by a man posing to be a professional photographer are asking members of the public for help. Following the arrest of the Cunupia suspect and the confiscation of several tapes of women appearing to be raped, the T&T Police Service sent out an appeal on its Twitter account.

T&T Express now cleared for one sailing on Sunday

Following an notice of the cancellation of sailings due to rough seas this weekend, the Trinidad & Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company (TTITC) now says there will be one sailing, on Sunday.

The T&T Express will sail from Port-of-Spain on Sunday 25th February at 2 pm, the statement said.

Earlier the had announced that rough sea condition had forced it to cancel sailings this weekend.

Weekend ferry sailings cancelled because of rough seas

All sailings of the T&T Express have been cancelled this weekend as a result of the Rough Seas bulletin issued by the Met Office.

The Trinidad & Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company (TTITC) has issued a statement to remind the public that at this time of the year the sea conditions can impact on the sailing schedule as, from time to time, the wave heights are predicted to be in excess of the acceptable 3 metres for the passenger vessels.

Expect traffic restrictions due to WASA work

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising motorists and members of the general public of traffic restrictions along the Siparia Road, South Oropouche, in the vicinity of the intersection with the South Trunk Road, on Friday February 23, 2018 between the hours of 9 am and 8 pm.

WASA says this has become necessary in order to facilitate interconnection works associated with the ongoing transmission pipeline upgrade in the area.

Motorists are asked to proceed with caution in the vicinity of the jobsite and to obey the instructions of the police officers on duty.

WASA advises customers in Central, South West Trinidad to store-up water ahead of weekend disruption

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is reminding customers in Central and South West Trinidad served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant and Point Lisas Desalination Plant, of the upcoming interruption in their water supply scheduled from 4 am on Friday to 8 pm on Saturday.

WASA says that during the period of the supply interruption, it will be unable to provide a supplemental supply to most of the affected areas.
