The Tourism Ministry is reporting that Carnival 2020 is set to be a success, as the more prominent hotels in the capital city, Port of Spain, have been sold out.
The news was revealed at a recent forum for hoteliers hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, and hosted by the minister, Randall Mitchell, and the chairman (Howard Chin Lee) and the CEO (Heidi Alert) of Tourism Trinidad Limited (TTL), during which stakeholders shared their concerns about challenges within Trinidad’s accommodation sector.
Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal is taking issue with his predecessor in the Housing Ministry, Randall Mitchell, accusing him of attempting to muzzle the media.
He is calling moves to serve host Phillip Alexander with a legal letter as extraordinary and treacherous.
He says Mitchell must publicly explain why he took the unprecedented move and is describing the development as dangerous saying it's intended to scare and intimidate citizens from exercising their constitutionally-entrenched right to freedom of expression.
Housing Minister Randall Mitchell has come out in defence of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, denying that Government plans to build a golf course in Ste Madeleine as claimed by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Trinidad Guardian: “Out of evil cometh good,” homeless Mary Paria said yesterday, as she revealed that Housing Minister Randall Mitchell has arranged to meet her tomorrow. She hopes that meeting leads to Mitchell providing her with a place to call home.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Mitchell’s San Fernando East constituency office at 8.30 am, Paria said. She also said she felt happy the minister, who originally “steupsed” at her request for a house, had publicly apologised for his behaviour.
