Rapist loses appeal, to serve 12-year sentence

A man from To­ba­go, who sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ed a 63-year-old for­eign na­tion­al and was ac­cused of com­mit­ting five oth­er sex of­fences in less than six months in­volv­ing the same vic­tim, has lost his ap­peal.

De­liv­er­ing a 67-page judge­ment at the Hall of Jus­tice in Port-of-Spain, on Tues­day, Ap­pel­late Judges Al­ice Yorke-Soo Hon, Ra­jen­dra Nar­ine and Mark Mo­hammed dis­missed all five grounds raised by Jade Bovell in his ap­peal.

Woman fends off would-be rapist

The frightening experience of her daughter being beaten and almost raped by an armed intruder in their home has prompted a San Fernando mother to support the police one shot, one kill approach.

“Now, yes I support everything at this moment. If I had a gun or a knife, I was going to use it on him. I was willing to die to save my children,” she said.

The intruder who is well known to the family is still at large.

Three charged with kidnapping and raping three women

Two brothers and a national of the Dominican Republic, have been remanded into custody after appearing before a Chaguanas Magistrate, charged with the kidnapping and rape of three women, which occurred over the period July 25th to August 2nd.

Nicholas Babwaw, 26, a fisherman of Morne Diablo, Penal, his 32-year-old brother Kevon Babwah, an AC technician of Scott Road, Penal and Starling Gutierrez 20, a Dominican Republic national residing in Chaguanas, were denied bail when they appeared before the Chaguanas 1st Magistrates’ Court, on August 10th. 

Serial rapist still in police custody

A 47-year-old serial rapist and robber, who was arrested while attacking his latest victim last week Thursday, remained in police custody up to late yesterday.

The suspect, of Chase Village, Chaguanas, was expected to participate in identification parades with his three previous victims yesterday afternoon.

According to police reports, the suspect attacked his latest victim, a 21-year-old student, while they were passengers in the same maxi taxi traveling along the Priority Bus Route (PBR).

Police search for rapist

The search is on for a man wanted for the rape of a 21-year-old woman.

The female casino worker was attacked as she made her way home around 3 o’clock on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at Damarie Hill in Guaico.

The victim told police she noticed the suspect following her as she exited a taxi and walked towards her home.

The man attacked her, robbed her and then sexually assaulted her.


Internationally: Idaho father forces pregnant 14-year-old daughter to marry her rapist

A father has been sentenced to at least four months in jail after forcing his pregnant 14-year-old daughter to marry the 24-year-old man who raped her.

The man, from Idaho, took his daughter and her attacker more than 1,000 miles to Missouri, where minors under 15 are allowed to marry with parental consent in “special circumstances”, such as being pregnant.

“If you get them pregnant then you marry them,” the father told the judge during the hearing, according to local media reports.

Police warn of rapist at large in Chaguanas

Police are searching for a suspected rapist in the Chaguanas area.

Reports indicate that around six yesterday morning, a 26-year-old Jamaican national was about to enter her home at Orchard Gardens when a man of African descent allegedly approached the victim, placed a knife to her throat and announced a hold up. 

The suspect is described as around five feet four inches tall, medium built and dark in complexion.

Reports indicate that the suspect sexually assaulted the woman after she indicated she had no valuables.
