Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a Chinese owned grocery in Caroni by men dressed in police uniform.
At around 9 am, two men dressed in tactical uniform visited the establishment and told the owners they were there to check the books. According to a police report, the owners became suspicious when the men asked that they open a certain section of the business place.
One of the reasons why it took the police five days to charge three robbery suspects is because they threw faeces at the police from the police cell.
This was told to San Fernando Magistrate Alicia Chankar when brothers Josiah, 25, and Rutendo Duttin, 33, and David Lewis, 33, appeared in court charged with a total of six robberies.
They were all denied bail. Josiah faced a separate charge of rape. They were not called upon to plead to any of the indictable charges.
A man who robbed five people in Woodbrook last evening is in police custody.
The robberies were said to have taken place in quick succession just after 8.30pm.

The 43-year-old proprietor was robbed of TT$1900 and a cell phone.
During the robbery, his brother entered the establishment and was tied up and also robbed of TT$900.
A Scotiabank employee is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital after being shot during an early morning robbery.
Roston Mahabir was shot outside the bank around 7.30 this morning.
Scotiabank confirmed the shooting in a statement issued Monday morning.
It said medical services were immediately alerted and he was taken to hospital.
The bank says it is offering counselling to other members of staff.
Report indicate that Mahabir was accosted and that the assailant grabbed a bag belonging to him before firing a shot at him.
