The National Clean-Up Campaign will continue in the city of San Fernando this weekend, kicking off with a launch ceremony at the San Fernando City Corporation’s Carib Street Complex on Saturday 4th March, 2017 at 8 am, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government says.
This is the second time a Clean-Up Campaign of this nature has come to the city, the first also being an initiative of Minister Kazim Hosein (then Mayor of the city), which took place in November 2015.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating a 24-year-old fisherman, who was last seen leaving his home to go out to sea at Kings Wharf, San Fernando, on Tuesday 13th December, 2016, a police statement said.
Dwayne David was reported missing from his Palmiste, San Fernando, home to the San Fernando Police Station by his mother, Joann Combs, around 3:20 pm on Sunday18th December, 2016.
David had left home around 7:30 pm dressed in a red short pants and a red and white T-shirt.
Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating a 43-year-old man who left home for work around 10:00am on Monday 5th December, 2016, and has not been seen since.
Premnath Jerry was reported missing from his Rushworth Street, San Fernando, home to the San Fernando Central Investigations Department by his brother, Sona Jerry, around 12:05pm on Thursday 15th December, 2016.
A shipment of supplies to the people of Haiti that came out of a drive by the San Fernando Mayor, is now on its way to the impoverished country.
The Mayor's Office issued a statement today giving details of the shipment:
"The first shipment for the Help 4 Haiti Charity Drive spearheaded by His Worship the Mayor Alderman Haji Kazim Hosein left San Fernando this afternoon and will arrive in Haiti within eight days. The containers exited the city in a convoy via Cipero Street and were headed for the port at Point Lisas. They will be shipped on the MAERSK shipping line.
Ag Commissioner of Police (CoP) Harold Phillip has ordered a probe into the police-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Adelle Gilbert from Embacadere, San Fernando.
Gilbert, of building 23 Ramsaran Street, Embacadere, was shot in the chest after being chased by police at Carlton Lane, San Fernando Housing Development Corporation around12:48 pm on Thursday.
Commissioner Phillip gives the assurance the investigation will be open and transparent and that the outcome will be made known to the public.
Twelve people are now homeless after a fire destroyed four homes along the Old Train Line, King’s Wharf, San Fernando.
The fire was believed to have started at the home of Alexander Gibbs, where he stored rice, flour, oil, sugar and toilet paper for Venezuelan fishermen to take back to the country.
Single mother Afesha Noel and her family were also affected.
San Fernando West MP Faris Al-Rawi said constituency representatives have already met with the residents and everything is being done to bring relief.
The San Fernando City Council is warning dog owners in the city, to secure their animals on Wednesday night, when a fireworks display will take place to celebrate the anniversary of Independence.
The corporation has issued the following statement on the matter.
"His Worship the Mayor Alderman Haji Kazim Hosein, Aldermen and Councillors of the San Fernando City Council wish to inform the public that there will be a fireworks display on San Fernando Hill on Wednesday 31 August, 2016 at 8:30 pm to celebrate our nation’s 54th year of Independence.
