Thirty two junior steelbands will be vying for championship status in their respective categories, this weekend, at the National Schools Panorama Finals.
The competition takes place on Sunday 26 January, 2020 from 9:00 am, at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain.
The three categories being contested are Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Elite (21 & Under Group).
Finalists were selected after several days of judging at the competitors’ schools, panyards and communities.
The Ministry of Education says that a delegation from the Ministry and other stakeholders visited the Princes Town Secondary School today and met with teachers and other staff members to discuss plans to resume classes at the school.
The Ministry says that classes for Forms 4 & 5 will start on Monday 15th January, 2018 while students of Forms 1 to 3 are expected to resume classes on Monday 22nd January, 2018.
The Education Facilities Company Limited (EFCL) was mandated to ensure that all works are completed for the resumption of these classes.
Barbados is seeking to introduce e-textbooks for secondary school students beginning next year.
A report in the Barbados Today newspaper says this will be dependent on at least 90 per cent of the required textbooks being available in digital format.
It's being introduced by the Caribbean Shared Educational Resources Service (CSERS), a student e-portal programme.
Project Director Beverly Smith-Hinkson said her organization, DataLore Inc was working with relevant stakeholders to make digital textbooks here a reality.
DataLore Inc oversees the CSERS project.
