Autopsy finds Shannon Banfield was smothered to death

Former Republic Bank employee Shannon Banfield was smothered to death, according to the findings of pathologist Dr Hughvon Des Vignes.

Contrary to prior information that a second autopsy was needed, reports reaching us indicate that Dr Des Vignes had in fact required more information on which to confirm his findings from Friday's autopsy.

We've been told that more crucial evidence was found at the crime scene today and that charges will be laid soon.

Second autopsy today to determine how Shannon Banfield died

A second autopsy will be performed on the body of Shannon Banfield today.

This comes after the results of an autopsy conducted on Friday came back inconclusive.

Forensic pathologist Dr Hughvon Des Vignes has since requested for more time to complete the procedure today.

Banfield's decaying body was found hidden behind some boxes in a storeroom on the third floor of IAM and company.

Two men were held for questioning, one has since been released.

Shannon's death brings into focus murder of another former IAM worker

The murder of Shannon Banfield at IAM and Company on Charlotte Street, has brought into focus the disappearance and murder of a 19-year-old woman who had worked at IAM.

Shenese Samuel disappeared after she left her Lopinot home on January 24th for a job interview in Port-of-Spain.

IAM owner Ishmael Ali said she had previously worked at IAM, Trincity but was laid off. 

He said there were "issues with a male employee".

Today, a friend Jameel Donawa raised concerns in a Facebook post, by posting a picture of Shernese and Shannon side by side.

Persons of interest in Shannon Banfield's death

Police have released the names and photos of two people they believe would have information to assist their investigations into the death of Shannon Banfield.

The following is a statement from the Police Service.

"Police believe these persons, Matthew Maharaj and Dale Seecharan, may have information that could be useful in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Shannon Banfield.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477), 999, 555 or any police station."

Republic Bank: This is a tragedy of immeasurable proportions

Republic Bank Limited has responded to the discovery of the body of one of its employees, Shannon Banfield today.

In a statement from Republic Bank, Human Resources General Manager, Anna-María García-Brooks said,

“This is a tragedy of immeasurable proportions and we are at a loss for words to express our shock and sadness.

We kept vigil with the rest of the nation’s concerned citizens, in hope of a safe return of our team member.

Our thoughts, prayers and support are with Shannon’s parents and family at this time.

Outpouring of emotions on social media over Shannon Banfield's death

As news that the body of 20-year-old Republic Bank employee, Shannon Banfield had been found, hundreds are expressing their grief and disappointment on social media sites.

Banfield's body was found at the IAM store on Charlotte Street around 2 pm Thursday.

"Are you ready for a state of emergency now?" Janelle asked.

Kierron focussed his comment on the apparent lack of action by the authorities.

Shannon Banfield's body found at IAM on Charlotte Street

The body of the missing 20-year-old Republic Bank employee Shannon Banfield has been found.

She was murdered.

Banfield's body was found this afternoon in a warehouse at Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.

The discovery was made shortly after 2 pm at IAM and Company, located and 39 Charlotte Street.

The body bore marks of violence and her clothes had been torn.
