Police officer detained after shooting girlfriend

A police sergeant is now in police custody for allegedly shooting his common law wife, who also is a police officer.

According to reports, at about 10:30 last night, Dale Ramroop (a 48-year-old police sergeant attached to the Princes Town Police Station) and Nicolette Persad (a 29-year-old police constable), were at their home at Mohess Road in Barrackpore when they both began arguing.

The couple had just returned home from attending a function.

Man gunned down in Carenage

A man was gunned down in a shooting incident in Carenage on Tuesday morning.

The victim is Joshua James, who also goes by the alias “Sausage”.

According to a police report, at about 8.15 am, James was shot while walking along Scorpion Alley.

He was taken to the St James Infirmary where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are ongoing.

Man succumbs to gunshot wounds

A man who was shot over 12 times while at Samaroo Village in Arima on Sunday night, later died at the Arima District Hospital while undergoing treatment.

According to a police report, at about 7.39 pm on Sunday, Joel Franco  was standing on Church Street, Samaroo Village when a lone gunman approached the him and shot him several times about the body.

Franco was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he succumbed to his injuries at about 9.45 pm.

Taxi driver shot, passenger beaten

A taxi driver was shot in the head and his passenger badly beaten after he refused to take two men, who boarded his taxi in Arima, to a specific location on Sunday night.

According to a police report, at about 8.20 pm, a 49-year-old man boarded a Gold coloured Nissan Almera motorcar on Queen Street, Arima, in the vicinity of the Royal Castle food outlet. There were two other men seated already in the back seat of the vehicle, which was driven by a 38-year-old man of Cumuto.

Woman killed in Enterprise

The sister of a woman police officer was killed in front of her home in Enterprise, as she was leaving to drop her teen daughter to school, early on Thursday morning.

Reports are that 38-year-old Alana Mohammed was reversing her black Toyota Corrolla out of her yard at Dass Branch Road, when gunmen opened fire on her.

The car was shot up more than six times.

Alana Mohammed was fatally struck. Her daughter, 14, was shot and wounded.

The daughter, accompanied by her father—who is a car business owner—was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Another killing in Cocorite

Twelve days after a murder occurred at Harding Place in Cocorite, another man was gunned down on Tuesday morning in the same spot.

According to a police report, Brian Taitt was at a parlour at about 3 am, when he was approached by a gunman who shot and killed him. 

The gunman then escaped.

A motive is yet to be established in that killing.

No survivors in Rancho Quemado shooting

Police have identified the four people killed in yesterday’s shooting in Rancho Quemado.

They are: 21-year-old Shaquille Dottin, 17-year-old Jabari Toby, and 17-year-old Alafia Augustine of Alexander Village, Santa Flora; and 28-year-old Anthony Alexander of Claxton Bay.

Police are probing whether the murders were drug-related.

According to reports, the men were seated in a silver Wagon at a house in Rancho Quemado, when at about 6 pm, two gunmen opened fire on them.

Erin police responded to reports of the shooting and found Dottin, Toby and Alexander dead.

Murder in Embacadere

Police are on the scene of a murder in Embacadere, San Fernando.

According to reports, Marlon La Guerra, also known as Triple, was at his home along Circle Drive Extension around 8.30 am when a gunman entered his house.

He was shot several times.

The gunman ran off.

On hearing the loud explosions, residents in the area contacted the police who responded and discovered the man lying in a pool of blood.

La Guerra was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died.

Man killed in police shoot out

An early morning shootout with police has claimed the life of one man.

Preliminary reports indicate that police, acting on information, proceeded to a house along Hilltop Avenue, Claxton Bay, in search of a murder suspect.

On arrival at the location, the officers allegedly were greeted with gunfire.

The officers subsequently returned fire and the assailant was hit.

The man was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

This is a developing story and we will have more information as details come to hand.

Maloney shooting victim dies

A man who was shot in Maloney on Wednesday morning has died.

The shooting incident occurred at about 6.30 am on Wednesday.

According to police reports, 43-year-old Hardy Abdul Mohammed was approached by a gunman and shot multiple times, moments after he left Building 20.

Mohammed was taken to the Arima District Hospital where he was treated and warded. He had been in a serious condition until he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Police said they are "very familiar" with Mohammed, who was also known as Shervon Ransom. He was said to be in his early 40s.
