Breaking: High Court rules in favour of LGBT community

The High Court has ruled it unconstitutional to impede on the rights of homosexual men and anal sex.

However, a final ruling will be handed down in three months so as to preserve the need for consent.

Members and friends of the LGBTQIA Community gathered outside of the Hall of Justice for the ruling celebrated as they learnt of the ruling, which came on the basis of a challenge brought by Jason Jones against the state.

The court matter was brought to repeal sections 13 and 16 of the Sexual Offenses Act.

Catholic Church against striking-down of buggery law

The Catholic Chruch is calling for respect to persons with same-gender sexual-orientation but is siding with other religious groups, against the repeal of the buggery law.

The Catholic Media Service issued the following statement today:

"A Christian NGO, T&T Cause calls the nation to come out April 6 and unite to preserve and protect the family and stop the following: The striking down of the buggery law legalising same-sex-marriage.

Weekes in Easter message: We can extract the essence of beliefs of others

President Paula-Mae Weekes said yesterday that one of the benefits of living in a multi-religious society such as T&T, is that “we can all extract the essence of the beliefs of others and discover its relevance to us.”

In her Easter message yesterday, she said the teaching of comparative religion in schools can bring a richer and more complete understanding of the beliefs, practices and fundamental philosophy of the faiths that co-exist in our shared space.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is encouraging the nation to spend time becoming familiar with the history and significance of Shouter Baptists' struggle.

The prime minister issued the following statement in recognition of the Shouter Baptists Liberation Day on Friday.

"As the Spiritual Baptist Community celebrates the 67th anniversary of its freedom from oppression, on behalf of my family and the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend heartfelt wishes for a safe and happy Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is calling on the nation not withhold its hands from doing well when it is in ones power to do so.

The Office of the Prime Minister issued Dr  Rowley's Easter message today:
