Fears of Siparia student contracting TB allayed by follow-up tests

Although a student of a Siparia school initially tested positive for tuberculosis, secondary tests have turned up negative.

This was confirmed by Minister of Planning and development, Camille Robinson-Regis, who was responding, on behalf of Health Minister Terrance Deyalsingh, to a question on the topic.

The question sought to determine if a student of the St Patrick Educational District had tested positive for tubercolosis.

11-year-old student charge with marijuana possession

An 11-year-old primary school student is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate today charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Police said on Friday, the Standard Four student, who attends a primary school along the east/west corridor, allegedly had a quantity of marijuana in his possession.

Investigators said around 3 pm, the student, who did not attend classes during day, went into the school with the parcels of marijuana and began showing it to his friends. Another student alerted the security guards on duty. 

Student in viral video charged with five offences including assault; on $35,000 bail

A male student who appears in a viral video in a confrontation with three police officers, has appeared before a Couva Magistrate on five charges arising from the incident.

The 17-year-old student of the Carapichaima East Secondary School has been charged with the use of obscene language, resisting arrest and three counts of assault on police officers.

Police say they responded to a report of a fight at St Mary's Junction Monday afternoon and when they arrived the student was allegedly using obscene language in their presence.

San Fernando City Corporation orders "sex den" shut down

The San Fernando City Corporation has instructed the owner of an abandoned house where a 17-year-old girl was shot, to close down the residence. 

The Marabella Secondary School Girl was shot remains hospitalised in stable condition.

Neighbours told the media that the house referred to locally as 'the mansion' is used by school children to have sexual intercourse. 

San Fernando police say the mayor contacted the owner and ordered that the house be cleaned and closed off.

Police say the girl who was shot on the right side of her chest is resting comfortably.
