Education Minister Anthony Garcia says that students from the hurricane-ravaged island of Dominica who are seeking admission into schools in Trinidad and Tobago will not be denied the opportunity to continue their education.
This follows news reports that a parent who relocated from Dominica and now resides in Central Trinidad is unable to get her three children admitted into schools.
Police have taken several students of the Siparia West Secondary School into custody for questioning in relation to a violent fracas that was caught on camera and has now gone viral.
They were detained this morning at the school but the student most prominent on the video is now being sought as he did not turn out to school.
The Ministry of Education also announced that several students have been suspended for seven days for their role in the fracas.
The school held an assembly this morning, attended by several high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Education.
The students involved in a fighting incident caught on camera at St Mary's College have been suspended and a larger group from a second incident are also to face suspension.
This was confirmed by the principal of St Mary's College, Nigel Joseph in an email to parents regarding the incidents.
