A 56-year-old woman, Marilyn Gallant, has survived an attack on her life in what would have been a case of murder-suicide.
However, the man who attempted to kill her, only succeeded in taking his own life after.
The woman is now in a stable condition at hospital.
Gallant, who resides in San Raphael, Arima was at the corner of Queen and Farfan streets in Arima last evening when she was attacked and chopped about her body by a man identified as Narine Singh.
Police are probing the circumstances under which a Mayaro woman took her own life Wednesday morning.
Kiniece Slyvan, 25, of Peter Hill Road Mayaro.
A male relative who wished not to be identified said Slyvan borrowed money from a neighbour and went to the agro shop where she purchased a toxic substance. Slyvan and a male relative had an argument that earlier that morning.
Reports are that she was found by her mother around 11.45 am trembling at the family home.
A Penal man stabs his wife and three-year-old child before killing himself.
The man's wife is also dead but the three-year-old is fighting for her life in hospital.
The victims are identified as Premnath Ramkelewan and Aarika Bhim.
Police say around seven this morning, 25-year-old Ramkelewan stabbed his 26-year-old wife Aarika and then attacked his three-year-old daughter Aarti with the same weapon.
CNC3 understands he slit the child's throat.
He then hanged himself at their Laltoo Trace, Penal home.
