Tourist discharged from hospital, flies back home to UK

The Ministry of Tourism has said that tourist Sally Wilson, 72 and her 74-year-old husband, Michael, have left Trinidad and Tobago for their United Kingdom (UK) home, following her hospitalisation due to a cut sustained in a robbery.

The couple left on Sunday evening.

The Wilsons arrived here on December 26, 2018 (Boxing Day) with more than 3,000 other passengers on the MSC Preziosa cruise line but were unable to leave on its scheduled departure later that day because Mrs Wilson was injured during a robbery at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

THRTA challenges Tourism Ministry on low spending on marketing

The Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants & Tourism Association (THRTA) says it has taken note of the release from the Minister of Tourism, regarding Hotel Room Taxes.

The THRTA says that of particular importance, is the minister’s confirmation that there has been an annual remittance of Hotel Room Taxes by accommodation providers to the government, in aggregate amounts exceeding $50 million over the past five years.

Tourism Minister wants T&T to be "must-visit" destination for cruise lines

The  Ministry of Tourism says Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell, is working to make Trinidad and Tobago a “must-visit” destination for major cruise lines.

Minister Mitchell engaged in face-to-face discussions with executives of all the major cruise lines while attending the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Conference and Trade Show held in Puerto Rico from November 5 to 9, 2018.

Over 100 cruise executives were in attendance along with over 30 high-ranking regional government officials.

London cab in Tobago marketing plan

As part of the new Tobago branding strategy currently being rolled out at the World Travel Market 2018 in London, a Tobago branded black taxi/cab was unveiled today.

London is known for the famous black cab and this particular black cab will be engaged for a six-month period by the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), as part of its marketing strategy to promote Tobago in the UK market.

The cab is wrapped in the new branding imagery and includes the ‘Tobago Beyond’ tagline and website.

The unveiling took place at a press conference on Monday at the Excel Centre, London.

Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles told the audience that Tobago is still waiting to be discovered.

69,000 visitors expected during this cruise season

With the arrival of just over 4,200 visitors on the Princess Cruise Lines’ Caribbean Princess, Trinidad is set for a bumper cruise season, the Ministry of Tourism said.

Sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the Caribbean Princess arrived at the Port of Port of Spain on Monday with 3,024 passengers and 1,190 crew.

The Caribbean Princess is the first of 25 scheduled cruise calls this season, which will bring an estimated 69,000 visitors to our shores.

This figure will represent a second consecutive year of significant increases in cruise arrivals.

Mitchell: Sandals will bring the world to Tobago

Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell says the establishment of a Sandals Hotel in Tobago will bring the world to the island.

Mitchell made the statement in his contribution to the debate on the 2019 National Budget in the House of Representatives.

Minister Mitchell told legislators the proposed hotel, to be owned by citizens and operated by Sandals, will create benefits for the entire country.
