UNC: Anomalies in voters lists for four marginals

The United National Congress (UNC) is calling on the Elections And Boundaries Commission (EBC) to launch a probe into what it says are abnormalities with voter lists in four marginal parliamentary constituencies.

In an official statement, the UNC says it had been conducting its own house to house examination of the list of registered voters in each constituency, meeting each voter in person.

Tunapuna man murdered in home invasion

A man is dead and his wife warded at hospital following an early morning home invasion.

Reports indicate that shortly after 1 am armed men stormed the couple's Macoya Settlement home in Tunapuna. 

A struggle ensued and one of the assailants reportedly stabbed 60-year-old Nizam Mohammed and his wife before fleeing. 

The police were called in and rushed the couple to hospital, however, the elderly man succumbed to his injuries. 

Police suspect robbery may have been the motive.


81-year-old Tunapuna woman missing

An elderly woman with Alzheimer's has been reported missing.

Reports indicate that between 6:00 and 6:45 am today, the family of 81-year-old Louisa Nimrod realized that she was missing from her home in Tunapuna.

A close relative of the woman said she last saw the elderly woman wearing a blue skirt and orange top.

Nimrod is approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, light brown in complexion with grey and black hair.

Anyone with information on nimrod's whereabouts is asked to contact the police or call 755-6225


Missing 16-year-old Tunapuna girl found

Shaheda Thomas, the 16-year-old of Tunapuna, who was reported missing by her mother, Camille Thomas, on Thursday 23rd March, 2017, has been found, a statement by the Police Service said.

The statement adds that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service thanks the public for its assistance in ensuring the teenager’s safe return.

The statement does not give any further information.

16-year-old Tunapuna girl missing

Police are seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 16-year-old Shaheda Thomas.

Shaheda, of El Dorado, Tunapuna, was last seen along Independence Square, Port of Spain, around 4:30pm, on Thursday 23rd March, 2017.

She was reported missing to the Central Police Station on that same day, by her mother, Camille Thomas. 

Shaheda is of African descent, 5 feet 6 inches tall, slim built and brown in complexion. She was last seen wearing a pair of long, blue jeans and a white tank top.

She is a Form 3 pupil of Diego Martin North Secondary School. 

Man shot dead in Tunapuna

The murder toll continues to inch closer to 100, as a man has been shot dead in Tunapuna.

According to reports, around 10:30 pm on Monday, Christian Antonio Bennett was at Toussaint Lane, Tunapuna when he was approached by a gunman who shot him once in the chest.

Bennett was killed instantly.

A motive for the murder is yet to be established.

Meanwhile, another shooting in Tunapuna has left one man warded at hospital.

Police reports indicate that Kadeem Bascombe was at Balthazar Street around 9:30 pm when he was ambushed and shot at. T

Tunapuna man held with semi-automatic rifle

A man has been held with a semi-automatic rifle and a quantity of ammunition following a raid at his home.

The 34-year-old Tunapuna man was held at his Hendrickson Street, Tunapuna apartment on Tuesday evening with a semi-automatic pistol along with 59 rounds of live ammunition.

Inspector Hernandez, Seargent Peters and Corporal Stevenson along with members of the Tunapuna CID and task force were involved in the raid.

Four persons shot

Police are still on the scene of a multiple-victim shooting in Tunapuna.

Four persons were shot during the ambush with one victim being listed as critical the shooting happened at around 1030a.m at O'keefe Street, Monte Grande, Tunapuna.

Police were told that four men were sitting roadside near the "lizard one stop" car care centre when two vehicles pulled up.

Witnessed described the vehicle as a panel van and a car. Several men stepped out of the vehicles and began shooting, before fleeing.

Mystery surrounds pile of dead dogs in Tunapuna

Who would possibly kill more than 10 dogs and then dump their carcases on a street in Tunapuna.

That's the question hundreds are asking after a Tunapuna woman posted a photo on Facebook appealing for help.

Shefalie George's post shows the dogs piled upon each other.

"This is the scene at Upper Fairley Street, Sesame Street, Tunapuna," she said.

"Woke up this morning to a gruesome discovery where 10 dogs were poisoned and were found dead at various locations," she added.
