UNC gets 104 election nominations

The Op­po­si­tion UNC im­me­di­ate­ly re­ceived 104 nom­i­na­tions for Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment and gen­er­al elec­tion ar­eas when the par­ty opened nom­i­na­tions on Mon­day.

UNC PRO Ani­ta Haynes con­firmed this fol­low­ing first-day ac­tiv­i­ties on Mon­day.  The par­ty opened nom­i­na­tions for all Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment cor­po­ra­tion seats and for gen­er­al elec­tion seats which the UNC doesn’t hold and which are cur­rent­ly held by the PNM.

Haynes said 84 peo­ple col­lect­ed forms for Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment seats and 20 for gen­er­al elec­tion seat.

UNC heartened by election nomination turnout

The United National Congress (UNC) says it is heartened by the enthusiastic response to its call to action as it opened nominations for all Local Government seats and for General Elections seats which it does not currently hold. 

"We thank the hundreds of people who came out on the first day to pick up nomination papers. On day one of nominations we have had 84 persons picking up nomination forms for Local Government Elections and 20 persons for General Elections," the UNC said in a statement.

UNC chairman calls for procurement legislation

Warn­ing that valu­able oil as­sets could be sold to friends and fi­nanciers of the PNM, UNC chair­man David Lee has called for the op­er­a­tional­i­sa­tion of the pro­cure­ment leg­is­la­tion be passed in Par­lia­ment un­der the PNM.

Speak­ing at the UNC’s Gen­er­al As­sem­bly held in Cou­va on Sun­day, Lee lam­bast­ed the Gov­ern­ment for not op­er­a­tional­is­ing the pro­cure­ment leg­is­la­tion say­ing out of 90 bills, it was one of the few bills passed in Par­lia­ment.

UNC assembly gets motion calling for alliances with other parties

Chaguanas West MP Ganga Singh will move a motion at the UNC's National Assembly on Sunday, calling on the political leader to engage with other political parties and units, with an aim towards forming a coalition to contest the 2019 Local Government Election and the 2020 General Election.

Singh has submitted the motion called "Creating a Unified Political Platform" to the National Executive for debate.

It has been seconded by San Juan/Barataria MP Dr Fuad Khan.

UNC makes call to interested citizens - Come forward!

The United National Congress (UNC) is calling on all citizens who wish to make a difference in T&T, to come forward.

The party issued the call following a joint caucus with its parliamentarians and National Executive held on Monday. 

In a statement issued Tuesday, the UNC said that among the consensus decisions taken, is a decision to hold a National Assembly on Sunday, 27th January 2019 at Couva South Hall from 2 pm.
