UNC chairman David Lee is calling statements made by Vasant Bharath absurd.
During an interview, Mr. Bharath said the UNC could not win a General Elections if it was called now.

The UNC National Executive (Natex) is dismissing Chaguanas West Member of Parliament Ganga Singh's claims that the calling of elections for the post of political leader is unconstitutional.
The UNC Natex says it is prepared to respond to any legal challenge brought against it in this regard.

Long-standing UNC member and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Wade Mark, says the decision by the party's national executive to call an election for the post of political leader at this time, is correct.
Mark says the party's constitution allows for it.

"As a founding member of the United National Congress (UNC), I sat on the platform in the National Stadium on Sunday, 30th April, 1989 when our great Party was created.
After a complaint by Opposition MP, Dr Roodal Moonilal, the Police Complaints Authority has begun an investigation into the leak of a search warrant bearing his name.
Through his attorney Israel Khan, Dr Moonilal wrote to the PCA last week questioning how high office holders came in to possession of the document, saying there was collusion to assassinate his character.
In a letter to Dr Moonilal, Director David West says the authority has carefully perused all documents provided and agrees that the complaint falls within the remit of the PCA.
Vasant Bharath says he is not surprised that the date for the election for the post of the political leader has been brought forward.
Bharath who is expected to present the main challenge to Kamla Persad-Bissessar for the party's leadership says he anticipated that she would have sought to have it held on the same day with the election of a new national executive.
Bharath has not yet made public his decision about entering the leadership race.
Chaguanas West Member of Parliament, Ganga Singh is challenging the decision by the executive of the United National Congress to fix November 26th, 2017 as the date for the election for the party's political leader, saying it is ultra vires and/or in breach of the UNC Constitution.
He says it is therefore null and void.
The Women's Arm of the United National Congress (UNC) is criticising Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for what it says is disrespect towards women.
The UNC Women's Arm is taking issue with a statement made by the prime minister on Thursday.
It issued the following statement today.
"The UNC National Women’s Arm continues to express it’s distaste towards the continued disrespectful and downright demeaning remarks towards women by the Prime Minister of this country.
