Former COP chairman Joseph Toney mounts UNC platform and announces his return

"I come back to that very question - 'Who is going to be my leader?"

In 1990, Joseph Toney was on his feet in Parliament when the Muslimeen members stormed in an attempted coup, and he blurted out, "Who is your leader?"

Tonight, it is the same question that he said he had to ask himself, as he declared that he is returning to the United National Congress, a party he had left with former Finance Minister Winston Dookeran, to form the Congress of the People.

UNC celebrates 29th anniversary - "As sure as the sunrise, we will rise again"

The United National Congress (UNC) is today celebrating 29 years as a party today.

The party issued the following statement in recognition of its 29th anniversary.

"Today, we celebrate the 29th anniversary of the inception of our great UNC and as we mark this special occasion, we must take a moment to reflect on our core Party principles which sets us apart from any other political institution in this country.

UNC says it will not subject to JSC investigation into Cambridge Analytica matter

The Opposition United National Congress says it will not subject itself to a Joint Select Committee of Parliament to investigate whether the party was involved with Cambridge Analytica, Aggregate IQ, or the Strategic Communication Laboratories Group or their affiliates for the purpose of data mining.

The party is accusing the Attorney General of abusing the authority of the JSC's and insists that it is not the right forum for such an investigation.

UNC to file motion of privileges against Attorney General

The Opposition intends to file a Motion of Privileges against Attorney General Faris Al Rawi, following his statement in the Parliament in which he declared that his ministry has launched an audit to determine if the UNC contracted Cambridge Analytica.
