Roget: No job safe in T&T

Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) President-General Ancel Roget says the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) is on a rapid mobilisation campaign to raise awareness and consciousness that no worker is safe in T&T.

He was speaking at JTUM's campaign for national resistance against austerity at the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union's (BIGWU) head office in Barataria, yesterday.

Roget said “We give people a job to ensure that they maintain and increase the standard of living for everybody, but by accepting that job, they're allowing our jobs to slip away.

Judge halts PSA elections again

The Public Service Association (PSA)’s leadership election has been postponed for the second time in less than three months.

The postponement of the election, which was carded for February 19, came yesterday as High Court Judge Nadia Kangaloo ruled that there were irregularities in the voter’s list compiled by the association’s elections committee in October, last year.

Kangaloo ruled that the committee would be unable to rectify the errors on the list and publish it before the proposed election date.

TSTT manager reports CWU officers to police

TSTT’s Executive Vice President HR, IR and Corporate Support Services Carol David yesterday made a report to police after members of the Communications Workers Union (CWU) showed up at her Savannah Drive home in Trincity, yesterday.

Graeme Suite, TSTT's senior manager, Brand, Public Relations and External Affairs, yesterday confirmed that a report was made to the police after some 20 CWU members showed up at David's home to protest.

Schools closed on Friday

There will be no school this coming Friday - 6th October, 2017 to cater for a national convention by the representing union.

According to the Ministry of Education, it has given the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association permission for teachers to attend National Convention of Teachers 2017, which will be held on Friday from 9am to 3pm.

Therefore, Primary, Secondary and Early Childhood Care and Education Centres will be closed to facilitate the convention.
