Three Venezuelan women, 3-year-old boy detained in Erin

Four Venezuelan nationals have been detained by officers of the South Western Division, during an anti-crime exercise at the Los Iros Beach, Erin, last evening.

During the exercise, which was led by Sgt. Richardson, of the Santa Flora Police Station, officers had cause to stop and search a brown Nissan Almera motor vehicle parked near a bar occupied by two Trinidadian men and four Venezuelans.

Enquiries led officers to believe that the three Venezuelan women, ages ranging from 22 to 41 years, and a 3-year-old Venezuelan boy, were in the country illegally.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro says he has survived an assassination attempt involving explosive drones.
According to reports two drones loaded with explosives went off near the president's stand while he was speaking at a military event in Caracas.
Live footage of Mr Maduro's speech shows the president suddenly looking upwards, startled and dozens of soldiers running away.
He blames Colombia for the attack however, Bogota describes the accusation as a "baseless."
Seven soldiers were injured, and several people were later arrested.

IMF: Venezuela's inflation could reach 1 million percent by year's end

Inflation in Venezuela could top 1 million percent by year’s end as the country’s historic crisis deepens, the International Monetary Fund said on Monday.

Venezuela’s economic turmoil compares to Germany’s after the first world war and Zimbabwe’s at the beginning of the last decade, said Alejandro Werner, head of the IMF’s western hemisphere department.

“The collapse in economic activity, hyperinflation, and increasing deterioration … will lead to intensifying spillover effects on neighboring countries,” Werner wrote in a blogpost.

Health Ministry warns against eating fresh crab meat from Venezuela

The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries is advising the public ‘to avoid eating fresh crab meat from Venezuela as the US Food and Drug Agency says it may be contaminated with Vibrio parahaemolyticus.”

Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria can cause gastrointestinal illness in humans.

The ministry says persons who consume foods with these bacteria may experience diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, nausea, fever, and stomach pain.
