Road fatalities increase as motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist has been killed in an accident on Sunday.

According to police reports, shortly after 5pm, Peter Salandy was riding his motorcycle along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway when he lost control and skidded off the road.

Eyewitnesses suspect the accident, which occurred in the vicinity of Wallerfield, may have been caused as a result of speeding along the roadway, which was wet at the time.

Peter Salandy's death has pushed the road fatality figure for the year to six.

Man in court today for homemade shotgun

A man from Wallerfield is expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate today on gun-related charges.

The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led police exercise on Thursday that took place at his home at Jump Street, off Demerara Road, Wallerfield.

Official police reports indicate that officers of the Northern Division, under the supervision of Snr Sup Paul, executed a search warrant in the presence of the suspect.

A pump-action homemade shotgun was found and seized.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged for possession of a firearm.

Pregnant woman among double-murder victims

Police are currently investigating a double-murder in Wallerfield in which a pregnant woman and a man are the victims.

The two were found dead in a vehicle on Brazil Road, Wallerfield this afternoon with gunshot wounds.

The man has been identified as Ricardo Daloo and the woman as Daniele Yearwood.

Reports indicate that around 4 pm, a neighbour heard several loud explosions and then the sound of a vehicle speeding off south unto the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

Murder in Wallerfield

Police are investigating the murder of a 37-year-old man.

Reports indicate that around 10 last evening, Jason Martinez was at his home located at Jacob Hill, Wallerfield, Arima when he was ambushed by a gunman.

An altercation ensued and Martinez was subsequently shot. Residents in the area contacted the police upon hearing the loud explosions.

Illegal quarrying operation shut down in Wallerfield

An illegal quarrying operation on state lands in Wallerfield, is shut down, following a joint operation carried out by police and officials of the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, a police statement says.

The operation, which involved officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force and officials from the Ministry of Energy, was conducted at Agua Santa Road, Block #5, Wallerfield, between 9:30 am on Wednesday 24th May, 2017 and 12:05 am today, Thursday 25th May, 2017.

Wallerfield man charged with double murder

A Wallerfield man is to appear before the Arima 1st Magistrates’ Court, charged with the murders of Stephen Tyrell and Kamau Charles, aka ‘Sap’.

Mikhail Mohammed, aka ‘Boxer’, 28, of Mexico Road, Wallerfield, was charged with the murders, after advice was received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Friday 14th April, 2017.
